How does Kumashiro define ‘commonsense?’ Why is it so important to pay attention to the ‘commonsense’? What commonsense understandings of curriculum and pedagogy do you bring with you into this course?
Commonsense is defined though the source as something that is commonly known through a society, the norm. Commonsence is what a society perceives as what is right and wrong. however, just because I society perceives something as commonsense, does not mean that is the way it should be. Different cultures have different common sense. the source explains how when he traveled to a different country, the common sense was completely different to what he was used to, which took some adjusting. when traveling to another place, you want to pay attention to their commonsense because you do not want to insult their culture by telling them that what they thing is right, you perceive as wrong, even if to you, a different way would be better.
I understand the ways of commonsence. That it is what you believe to be a norm, an unwritten law. However, just because i consider something commonsence someone else may consider the opposite. There are many different versions of commonsense such as the difference between someone living in the city vs in a rural area. Pedagogy is the way your teaching style is. however, that is the extent of my knowledge of that topic. I am excited to learn many knew things about pedagogy and to be able to discover what my own pedagogy/teaching style is. However, I do believe that your teaching style will and should change with every class you teach because different students have different needs and as the teacher, we should help the students as much as we can.
