Week 1 – Green thumb!

While pondering on what hobby I will have interest in and some motivation to actually complete as something I will enjoy. I know I enjoy gardening and watching plants grow. I decided I will learn how to propagate plants and turn the plants into terrariums. I own three terrariums that I have bought from stores in Regina. I have always wanted to create my own but I have no idea how. I decided that this class project will be the perfect opportunity to learn! I have not been able to propagate before, every time I have attempted the cutting always dies. I have enjoyed plants and gardening ever since I was a child. My Grandpa and Mom always had beautiful gardens as I grew up. I remember helping my Grandpa water his plants with my little watering can.

My grandpa passed away in November of 2022. Since his passing I have felt more attached to gardening knowing how much he had enjoyed it for so many years. I learnt so many techniques and ways for plants to grow. My Grandpa has definitely passed down the green thumb. I enjoy watching plants grow from seed into a full adult plant. I love watching the plants grow and designing how I want the plant to grow on the roof or walls.

My Grandpa’s passing was very difficult on me as he had a very significant role in my life. I enjoyed gardening and watching his flowers grow while I was a child. My Grandpa would let me water his plants and help plant them in his garden. He showed me how to dig the dirt down to be able to plant the roots properly in the soil. So far I have learnt how to find the nodes on a plant and to cut three leaves on a cutting and put the cutting in water for 1-4 weeks until the cutting grows new roots for planting.
