So yes, as the title suggests, my machine is still broken. Hasn’t stopped me from starting on the quilt that I am trying to make, but it is tough because I can’t use the squares of material I had cut out for my project until it is fixed. I will be receiving the part tomorrow that I need in order to get started, but this whole process has been tedious.
Anyways, I have cut out my material that i need to make the quilt. It is going to be a 6 foot by 4 foot patchwork quilt, and i have 4 different materials that i will be using. I got all these materials over the weekend, either from scraps at my grandma’s house, or from stuff that i had lying around at home (and by me, i mean my mom).
So I cut these into 6 inch by 6 inch squares, so if I am doing my math right, that means that I need 96 squares, which means i need 24 squares of each, which i have just finished cutting. I haven’t laid them out in the order I would like yet, but the colour’s actually don’t look terrible when they are on a grid together.
I also learned about a new tool that i can use, which is a rolling cutter. Up until this point, i had been using strictly scissors, which is not smart, but now that i have that rolling cutter, it moves very quickly for what i need to do. What would have taken me probably a couple of hours to do, i got done in only one hour, which i am grateful for!
It’s great that you’ve still been motivated to do your project though your sewing machine has been broken. It was smart to get all of the prep work done! Hopefully you can get your quilt done for our last learning project post! I think sewing is a very important skill to have, I’ve relied on my grandma to make blankets and do clothing alterations, but no one else has taken up the hobby so we’re all in trouble 30 years from now lol. Anyways, good luck on your quilt!
It is great to see that you are still putting the work in while your machine is down. I am sure that the rolling cutter is making it a lot easier. Something just popped into my head but one time my grandma made me a quilt using a bunch of old T-shirts that had meaning behind them (whether that be sports teams, concerts or anything else sentimental) and made that into a quilt for me and I mean I have no idea how hard that is or even how you quilt but I wanted to share that cool idea with you if you’re to continue quilting.
I absolutely love this idea! I want to continue quilting for a long time. i have found it so relaxing to do!
