Back to Blogging

Blogging actually feels rather nostalgic for me. When I was a kid, my mom had a semi-popular “mommy blog” on Blogger. My youngest years were spent watching her craft posts about our family and our many adventures together. When I was only seven years old, my mom actually made me my own blog and allowed me to essentially do whatever I want with it. My blog was not public and my mom adjusted the settings of it so that only select family and friends could access it. I loved this blog and spent countless hours writing stories about my life, sharing cheesy YouTube videos that I thought were the greatest thing that the internet had ever seen, and uploading pictures of my hobbies.

Several years into my blogging journey, I was able to make my blog public and began to grow a little community of sorts with other pre-teen bloggers. I loved it. Not only was my blog a source of new online friends, it was also a great way for me to experiment with various creative endeavours. I tried out graphic design, photography, creative writing, coding, and many other blog-fuelled passions. However, as I became an adolescent, I grew increasingly embarrassed of this blog until I eventually removed it from the internet to hide it from crushes and classmates. This is my first time revisiting blogging since I was a teen and I am pleased to be back.

Okay, now for an actual introduction as to who I am today. Hello! My name is Aili Meyers (formerly Burlando). I am a 23 year old woman (eek that sounds strange but so does “girl” or “lady”) living in Herbert, Saskatchewan, with my amazing husband who is a teacher in our small town.

This is my final semester of a Middle Years Education After Degree and I am so excited to be done. While I have enjoyed my years in post-secondary school, I think that 6 years in a row of it is enough for me. Prior to pursuing an Education degree at the U of R, I completed a four year BA Applied Linguistics:TESOL at Briercrest College in Caronport, Saskatchewan. I loved the opportunities that I had to teach the English language to adults in Canada, as well as in Iraq during my summer teaching internship.

I am the oldest of 7 children, 4 of which were adopted. I grew up in Saskatchewan but spent many winters throughout my childhood living in Baja, Mexico while my parents where missionaries there. I am very grateful for the unique experiences that my parents provided me with while I was young. I think that these multicultural experiences prompted me later on to receive an EAL degree and to want to teach now to immigrant and refugee students in Canada.

I also have diagnosed ADHD, which means that I have a plethora of revolving hobbies and interests (IYKYK). Currently, I love reading and have been wearing out my library card. I really want to get into making air-dry clay magnets but am trying to not spend money right now on a new hobby that will only last me a few weeks. My favourite artists right now are Lana Del Rey and Suki Waterhouse. I am an active person and have done weightlifting for a few years now. I love all pastel colours, but my absolute favourite is lilac purple. I can’t cook to save my life (check out my Learning Project if you wanna hear more about that journey lol).

Well, I think that somewhat sums me up. Thanks for reading.
