Let’s Use A Song – Said Every Single Elementary Teacher Ever

This week I decided to use songs on YouTube, which are intended to help ASL learning, such as the ones I have linked below:

Hi Hey Hello Greeting Song with ASL

Work Together with ASL Cooperation Song

I chose to use ASL kids songs after watching the students in my grade 1/2 pre-internship classroom sign along to a video that was about the ASL alphabet. My co-op teacher said that the kids learnt primarily through the song, she helped ensure they had the right hand positions and posture, but that was all. It was cool to see. Check out my video below to see the new things I learned this week.

My feelings on the ASL kids songs videos

  • Information – 5/10
  • Engagement – 9/10
  • Comments – The songs were really easy to learn from but it was hard to find the right type of song that helps teach you. I liked that there was a tune so you could remember the words and signs better. I found that although there weren’t very many videos and there aren’t very many signs that you could learn through these videos, but I retained a lot from the videos even after watching the song once.
  • Overall Rating – 7/10

Last week I used ClipChamp to edit my video, so this week I used iMovie, which I was told is really easy to use if you have a Mac and I do!  Although iMovie is relatively easier to use, I think I prefer ClipChamp. ClipChamp was easier to navigate and find what I wanted to do. I struggled to figure out things on iMovie. I did like that I was able to add the little banners but it was really hard to get it to only show up for a short time on one clip so I just had it last the whole clip. I also could not figure out to get background music properly. It was super easy to add background music and turn the volume down so it does not over power my talking in ClipChamp. I ended up not having background music with iMovie because I could not figure out how to turn the volume down. Overall I found ClipChamp better and more user friendly but iMovie is a solid option.
