Our Changing World
This is a large and everchanging topic/question, which makes it difficult to answer. What I think the culture of participation means now for my future classroom may change in 2 to 5 years.
First I think technology and the idea that it is always changing and ‘improving’ (I put this in quotations because we all have different definitions of improvement and are all improvements really making it better?) is something to look forward to in education, schools, and classrooms. I think about all the resources and things we are able to do in schools now, compared to 10 years ago when I was in elementary and middle school. It is important to use these resources and inform ourselves as much as we can, to be able to use them in our classrooms. Technology can make education a little bit easier. It makes it easier to accommodate for some students needs. For example you can use google translate to speak to a student who may not be fluent in English yet.
I do see a downside as some of us may be less technological and therefore may not take advantage of all the resources available simple because we do not have much training or experience with it. There is also the issue of accessibility in the classrooms and at home. For example of you send an assignment home for homework that needs to be done online or on a computer, not everyone will be able to complete this homework because thet may not have internet or computer access. It is something us, as teachers, will have to think about and manage depending on our accessibility and our students.
Hey Alannah,
I think you are totally right on how technology has down falls and positives to it for the classroom. As someone who is really bad with technology, it is a little bit harder for me to use the best things even in the course. I have been trying to keep up with everyone, and it’s funny to say when I’m in my early twenties and for some reason, I am struggling to keep up. I really liked your take on this week’s topic!
