Introduction: About Me- EDTC 300

Hello everyone,

My name is Alea Lehne, and I am 22 years old. I was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan, where I still live today. I am currently in my fourth year of the K-5 Elementary Education program. Recently, I completed my internship placement, teaching an amazing group of Grade 4/5 students. During my internship, I gained more than I could have ever imagined, both in skills and personal growth (this just further confirmed that I am indeed in the right career).

From a young age, I’ve always felt the need to pursue a career that allows me to help others. My parents often told me I had a kind heart and believed I would one day choose a path that reflected that. First, I enrolled in the Psychology program, hoping to become a psychologist. However, after working at a before-and-after school program, I quickly realized my true calling was in education. Switching to the Education program was the best decision I’ve ever made. Making a difference in students’ lives and providing them with a safe space to be themselves means the world to me.

Growing up, I was empathetic, sensitive, and quite shy. It wasn’t until high school that I began breaking out of my shell and growing more confident.

A few fun facts about me: I’m very family-oriented and cherish my relationships with friends and loved ones. In my free time, I enjoy spending quality time with them, whether it is through simple get-togethers or fun activities. I’m fortunate to have a close-knit family, and we even have a group chat to stay updated on each other’s daily lives. When I’m not with family or friends, you can usually find me cuddled up with my stubborn dog, Rocco, or spending time with my loving boyfriend, Chase.

I don’t have much experience with educational technology, but I’ve dabbled with websites like Canva to create slideshows, posters, and worksheets. Our world has become much more “tech-centered” in recent years, even my great-grandmother has upgraded to using a smartphone! (This was a huge step for her and to this day I still get random facetimes with her face waaaaay too close to the camera…but I would not want it any other way).

With this in mind, I was excited to find a class focused on the use of technology in education. I’ve always wanted to explore the world of AI and tools related to this kind of technology to help my teaching strategies for various types of learners. As the world continues to change, I want to embrace these changes and learn how to adapt with them.

When it comes to blogging, I am as “inexperienced” as they come. I’ve had this blog for a while now because I needed it for a previous class, but I had to rely on my professors for support when organizing the menus and tabs you see here (honesty is the best policy!).

In this class, I’m hoping to become more independent as I experiment with my blog. I’m excited to have a place to share my thoughts and experiences, it’s nice to have an outlet for accountability when trying something new and to track my progress along the way.

Below, I’ll include a short YouTube videot that explains why it’s important to keep trying new things, along with a few pictures to help you get to know me a little better.
