    Contributions to Learning

    As we enter December and EDTC 300 comes to a close, I want to acknowledge how I contributed to the learning of others throughout the semester.  First off, I want to acknowledge that I was having issues with my discord account, so I was in then out and back in but late to the party.  However, I tried to respond to questions on discord when I could. Oftentimes questions were asked during the workday while I was teaching so I was not able to respond, and the questions were already answered by several people.     This learning journey has been quite the experience, although it has been an exhausting semester and felt a bit overwhelming at times, as I reflect on everything I learned and the hard work that went in, it all feels worth it.  For my learning project I decided to learn ASL. I have wanted to learn ASL for a few years now and I believe in creating an environment that is inclusive to everyone.     Back to the Basics

    Rather than trying to learn some more signs, I decided to refresh my memory by going back to the basics and recalling what I learned at the beginning of my ASL journey. I sometimes forget that in a learning journey it is not always continue learning new content but also ensuring the things we learned previously which are also foundational to progress in the future is also important.  Which includes the alphabet, counting and a few common sayings.     ASL recognized as an official language

    I have been extremely overwhelmed recently with tasks that keep piling up and feeling like there is not enough time to finish them all. So, this week I decided to focus less on learning new signs in ASL and rather I looked at the progression of Sign language in Saskatchewan and the school systems. I came across an article published April 2024 that identifies Saskatchewan as recognizing ASL and Indigenous Sign Language as an official language! How cool!     Hmmm..Which AI tool to try

    There are a few AI tools I have already utilized and/or at least given a try. We have a group of ELA teachers at the school I am currently at that taught students how they can utilize AI tools including creating AI superheros, and asking a variety of AI chatbots questions then recording the information. Additionally I have used ChatGPT to help me understand specific concepts in math or other subjects that I do not primarily teach so I can take that information and help my kiddos with their assigned homework.     Fake News!? What? Where?

    I primarily work with high school students in grades 9 to grade 12. I am in a temporary position where I do not do much group teaching, rather I work in small groups or one-on-one. However, I do help a lot of my students with their research assignments and my amazing colleagues are great at running these lessons about combating fake news prior to when research takes place, especially for grade 9 kiddos.  I mean, we all know to avoid the pesky Wikipedia webpage because it is easily editable by anyone on the internet.  Hypothetically, I think we could easily spend a whole unit on teaching digital literacy- learning how…
