Hey ALL! Welcome to my blog, I can’t wait to introduce you and take you along my learning journey. I am Alycia Kohut, aka Ms. Kohut and aka just recently Mrs. Lanigan! I am in my second year of teaching, currently on a temporary contract in a high school setting. I mainly work with students from grade 9-12, but while I was subbing I worked with students as young as Grade 2. My degree is in secondary education with a major in health and minor in social. While subbing I was working frequently in inclusive classrooms, such as VAP, FIAP, and LRT. While working in these program classrooms, I realized that I love being in a supportive role and I decided to go back to school to get my certificate in Inclusive Ed. Which is what I am completing currently.
I always knew I wanted to be in a career that involved helping people. Originally my plan was paramedic school. Near the end of the program I decided that wasn’t the career for me and it was back to the drawing board. I bounced back and forth between nursing and teaching and with many conversations with others in the programs, fields, and family I decided that teaching was the road I wanted to take. It was one of the best decisions I made academically. I go to work loving my job, even on the hard days. The teaching community, at least what I have experienced has been very positive and fellow colleagues are always willing to share resources and collaborate. Every day is a new day and a new experience.
I am excited to continue on my teaching journey and share my experiences with my fellow bloggers!
