This group project presentation had us looking into how both us and our future students could better connect with and relate ourselves to the Treaties. Often times, students that are not Indigenous cannot see how the Treaties impact and benefit them. Specifically, students of European descent are often not asked to examine their privilege, and students who have recently immigrated have no clue that they benefit from Treaties. Writing their own land acknowledgement and going beyond the base-level land acknowledgement can give students a feeling of connection to the Treaties and inspire them to conduct themselves as Treaty people.
