Hi! My name is Alyssa Mozel. I’m from Wynyard, Saskatchewan and have lived there since I was born.

The #1 thing that I live by: You are here for a reason. Whatever you believe in (the Creator, God, Gods, the universe, karma, or maybe just chance itself) has brought and kept you here for a reason. You are meant to be here, meant to accomplish something, and meant to be a part of someone’s future.

My Family: In my family there are four of us: my mother, my father, my brother, and myself. They have been my rock since day one, and I have learned so much from each of them. No matter what happens in the world, I know I will always have a place to come home to. They also make our home a welcome place for all people that enter. The welcoming atmosphere of acceptance and respect that my parents have created is something I wish to emulate in my classroom.

I can’t forget my cats! They’re amazing study buddies! They make sure I take some brain breaks, and they help me find the next sheet I need (which is typically the one they are laying or sitting on).

My Interests and Hobbies

Figure Skating: I have been figure skating for as long as I can remember. The coaches and mentors I have met throughout the years have impacted me greatly and have sparked a passion within me to help others in the ways they have helped me. They are the reason why I became a Program Assistant for my local skating club. Since I was not able to move to campus for my first year of University, I decided to continue being a Program Assistant. It was difficult with the pandemic to help and coach the CanSkaters while remaining distanced, but all of us at the club were finding ways to overcome this roadblock and ensure that the CanSkaters were staying active and engaged!

Dance: I have been dancing since I was five years old. I have trained in ballet, jazz, pointe, lyrical, modern, contemporary, hip hop, and acrobatic dance. I have done numerous solos in ballet, lyrical, and modern, and I was a helper for many of the younger ballet, jazz, and hip hop classes over the years. Similar to my skating coaches, all of my dance teachers have inspired me to give back to the younger kids in my community by sharing my passion with them.

Soccer and Band: Through my hometown schools I have had the ability to take part in these two activities. I was in Band from Grades 5 through 12, and I played the clarinet. I did concerts for the old folk’s home, at the annual Carol Sings in Wynyard and Foam Lake, as well as various other events in Wynyard, Foam Lake, and Ituna. I have also played at several Remembrance Day services in my community, and have had the opportunity to conduct my peers for a couple of those services.

My town’s soccer program did not start up again until I was in Grade 8, and it was only a spring soccer program. By Grade 10, there were school soccer teams. I took part in both of them from their starting points until Grade 12. I love playing the game, and, though my team was not very good, we all still had fun on the field.

Miscellaneous:

I had the pleasure of working as a lifeguard for my local pool for seven summers. I carried out daily maintenace tasks, and also taught swimming lessons in the June, July, and August sessions of the last five years I worked there.

I love reading! I love learning about people’s stories. It opens up my mind to other people’s perspectives, as well as issues that I would have never know existed otherwise.

I love writing! It gives me a way to express my ideas and creativity outside the realms of school assignments.

History is fascinating to me. I love learning about where a society came from, how it has evolved, and how those borders have changed alongside that history.
