Week 6, Part 3-4 Geography Now YouTube channel

What is it?

Geography Now YouTube channel

The main guy, Barbi, makes videos on every single country in the whole world, from A-Z. In these videos, he talks about the landscape, borders, flag, culture, some politics and history, and demographics

Why did I pick this resource?

I first found out about this YouTube channel in grade 9, because there was someone in my homeroom from Albania. I had never heard of that country before, so I looked it up on YouTube and found this channel. I found it very helpful and started watching this channel’s videos on other countries.

Basically, he did all the research, so I don’t have to (and he does a really good job). His videos are pretty comprehensive. Often, he gets someone from the country that he is covering, to help with the research and production. His videos cover many of the topics that I wanted to learn about and he does it in a funny way.

How did it go?

I don’t know what I was thinking, picking this as my resource for this week LOL. The resource is amazing, don’t get me wrong, but did I really think that I was going to watch 196 videos in 5 days, take notes on every single one of them, AND write a blog post about it? Girl, be so fr.

  • This is what my plan WAS: Watch a video and take notes on the flag, demographics, borders and write som fun facts, all in one page, nothing too detailed. Draw and colour-in the flag. To organize it, go by continent: start with the Americas, then move on to Europe, Asia, Oceania, Africa.

  • How it really went: Get busy all day with my 3 spring classes, promise myself I will watch a bunch of videos before I go to bed, watch maybe one or two before bed, knock-out because I am so tired, repeat.

Likes:

  • Comprehensive
  • funny/entertaining
  • Good, valuable information
  • Videos are not too long
  • Very convenient

Dislikes:

  • Nothing. The videos are great. The channel is great.
  • Well, if I HAVE to pick something, I would say that its not ideal for this particular challenge. I would definitely keep it up at my own pace, though!

Would I recommend it?

Heck yeah. 5/5 stars. Best rating I’ve given all semester.

    Hey Amalia!

I really enjoyed reading this week’s blog post. In the very beginning of the blog post Amalia, you kindly stated, “I first found out about this YouTube channel in grade 9.” One thing specifically I would suggest is to add the usage of a hyperlink in this sentence. It would be really great to kindly add a hyperlink of the actual YouTube channel when you specifically state, “this YouTube channel.” Again, this is just a kind and gentle suggestion and tip for you if you ever want to implement it in a future blog post.

A new thing that I notice is the fact that you share a rating or review in the end of the blog post. This is quite unique. You do not only provide how many number of stars that you would rate this, but you also give a small comment. Even prior to the 5 star rating, I feel that the blog post itself with respect to the comments and reflections you provided, can kindly act as a review itself. Overall, I had a really great time reading this blog post Amalia. It is quite innovative! Thank you and I kindly appreciate it.

Girl, you and I are the same in this aspect. Every week, I plan to do something extravagant and then life and classes take over and then I am just trying to get it done. I honestly think you did great this week. I can tell that the resource you chose is great and I am looking forward to diving into it.
