Welcome!

Land Acknowledgement

I would like to acknowledge that as resident of Regina and a University of Regina student, I reside and learn on Treaty 4 lands with a presence in Treaty 6 territory. These are the territories of the Nêhiyawak, Anihšināpēk, Dakota, Lakota, and Nakoda, and the homeland of the Métis/Michif Nation. I acknowledge that I have benefited at the cost of the Indigenous peoples of this land, and as and educator am committed to creating culturally responsive classrooms that honour Indigenous knowledge and ways of being as part of my participation in reconciliation.

A Little About Me

Hello and welcome to my portfolio!

My name is Amanda and I am a wife, mother to two, and a lifelong learner. I enjoy spending as much time with my family and friends as possible; visiting over coffee, at the lake or farm, or at book club. I believe life is best lived with a sense of humour and take great joy in using that to connect with friends, old and new.

Teaching will be a second career for me as I spent the first ten years of my professional life in the public service. I learned a lot about governance, policy and sustainability, but never felt as though I was serving my true purpose. I have always been drawn to working with children both formally and through volunteer opportunities. It wasn’t until I took some time to reflect on what truly filled my bucket that I realized where I needed to take my career; the classroom.

The learnings and relationships I have gained from the Education program have served to confirm that I am exactly where I am supposed to be. I am looking forward to becoming a teacher that creates a classroom where all children feel safe, appreciated, and engaged. I hope the material you find in this portfolio will serve to show you just how I intend to do this.

If you have any questions or feedback, I’d love to hear it.

Thanks for being here.
