Volunteer Experience

My involvement with WeDay led me into receiving an award issued by the Governor General of Canada called the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers. I was awarded this in 2016 for my efforts with this organization. It was awarded to me in Saskatoon by one of the WeDay founders, Craig Kielburger.

2016 was my prime year with the WeAct group at my school. I was involved in many tasks, such as raising money for schools and goats abroad, volunteering at local food banks, and selling rafikis. I also participated in WeScare Hunger, which involved collecting food for the local food bank in my community. As well as, I got the opportunity to go to the Human Rights Museum in Winnipeg, Manitoba and tour a homeless shelter. This shifted my views so much and our school was able to purchase an excellent painting from an older man staying at the shelter. We were also able to pack and prepare meals at their local food bank to provide to people in need.

I also got the great opportunity to voluntarily work for WeDay as a crowd pumper. I managed an entire section at the event, ensuring that everyone was enjoying the messages and being inspired!

Once I get more established into my career, I hope to continue my volunteer experience and I would like to help inspire others create change in an effort to make the world a better place.
