Who Am I?

Hello! My name is Amber Smith and I completed the Secondary Education Program  in 2024 within the Faculty of Education, with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry.

I was born and raised in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, where I have lived my entire life. I grew up with both of my parents and my brother Adam. My brother is only a year older than me, which has been really fun to grow up with. We have been able to relate, do similar activities, and enjoy growing up together. My parents have been such a major aspect in my life and I am forever thankful for the opportunities and support that they have given me throughout the years. My family plays such an influential role in my life and I cherish the memories and moments that we are able to spend together.

Honolulu, Hawaii

Throughout my childhood, I have been grateful to have the opportunity to travel to numerous locations. Many of my favourite childhood memories have happened through the experiences that I have shared with my family while traveling. My favourite location to return to is Mexico. I love the atmosphere, the culture, the language, and the experiences that I have endured. Traveling excites me so much and I want to continue and expand my portfolio, as I begin to travel much more of this diverse and adventurous world. I love to travel and hope to continue that into my future as well.

Moraine Lake, Alberta

I got the opportunity to travel twice with schools that I have attended. Once, in grade eight I participated in a SEVEC student exchange, where I traveled to Port Hardy, British Columbia. It was such an amazing experience being on the island and although the weather was harsh, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. My other experience traveling with school was in grade eleven. This time I got to go to the total opposite end of the country being in New Waterford, Nova Scotia. The senior basketball teams traveled here to participate in the Coal Bowl Basketball Classic. This was such a memorable experience that I will never forget. Both of my experiences with host families were very enjoyable.

I have done almost every sport and activity in the books throughout my childhood, including dancing, figure skating, gymnastics, acting, soccer, piano, swimming, etc. However, when I started playing basketball in grade six, that sport stuck with me. I continued to play basketball through the school and community programs until I graduated grade twelve. Basketball has given me so many crucial life skills, such as teamwork, leadership, strength, resilience, and hard-work. I am so excited to carry these characteristics into my career and as an educator I hope to coach basketball one day.

I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, doing outside activities, and going on adventures. Something else that I have enjoyed to do during High School is photography. I took photography for three years and really enjoyed it. It takes a lot of time and preparation to get a good shot. Here is one of my pieces.
