Professional Development Goals

On this page you will find my professional development plans and goals. These plans and goals are part of my continued and ongoing learning. I have also included some resources at the bottom that have greatly shaped my learning.

These ‘I will’ statements have been inspired through my in-class discussions with my peers.

Overall Goals

I will continue my own ongoing education as a future educator.

I will create an inclusive and safe learning environment for all students.

I will use inclusive material in all areas.

I will engage in reflection with meaning, taking time to consider as a form of learning.

I will respect and honour students names in all situations, including students pronouns or preferred names.

I will center my teachings around student differentiation.

Fat Pedagogies

I will avoid stereotypes.

I will celebrate all types of body shapes and sizes through increased representation and open discussion.

I will acknowledge within my classroom that ‘health’ comes with many barriers and obstacles.

I will not assume that students are healthy or unhealthy based on their body shapes and sizes.

I will celebrate in my classroom what our bodies can do, rather than what they cannot.

Anti-Racist Pedagogies

I will welcome diversity by allowing students to share and celebrate their culture within the classroom.

I will make space in the classroom for all students’ diverse lives, through increased representation, diverse resources, guest speakers and open conversations.

I will not use anti-racist pedagogies as a check box, as something that can be completed or finished. The work will be continuous and ongoing.

I will incorporate all ways of knowing and learning into my lesson plans and curriculum teachings.

Gender-Friendly Pedagogies

I will strive to use gender free or gender neutral language.

I will openly address and investigate with my students into why gender stereotypes are harmful.

I will not group or separate my class based on gender.

I will talk openly with students about gender and gender orientation, using proper terminology and language.

I will use resources that offer diverse representation and allow students to feel safe and accepted within the classroom.

Neurodiverse and Differing Abilities Pedagogies

I will encourage students to represent and display their learning in a variety of diverse ways, through providing student choice and offering differentiated instruction and assessment.

I will be open to any modifications, especially upon reflection of my learning plans.

I will encourage extra support for students who need it, without making them feel singled out or embarrassed for their needs.

I will recognize and talk critically and openly about the immense barriers faced by individuals who are neurodiverse or those who have differing abilities.

I will include resources in my classroom that offer diverse representation.

Culturally Responsive Pedagogies

I will work to normalize all cultures and cultural practices in the classroom, through discussion, diverse resources, and increased representation.

I will be consistently aware of cultural appropriation. I will credit all sources, and involve knowledgeable and appropriate guests when possible.

I will focus on Calls to Action regarding treaty outcomes, and use the Saskatchewan treaty outcomes to deepen students’ learning.

I will incorporate Treaty Education in all grade levels and subject areas.

I will normalize treaty land acknowledgments.
