“If I could turn back time” – Community Involvement

Alright, this is another area in this class that could have used some fine tuning. I will definitely admit that my involvement in the community was quite undesirable and I cannot remember if I commented on many posts at the start of the semester and I am unsure if there is a way to see whose posts I’ve commented on… I did not listen to Katia’s suggestion to keep track of blogs we commented on until I was trying to catch up with comments… so here is a link for what I could scrounge up last minute..

As I was writing this blog post I remembered Chayse had blown my mind earlier this semester by using Canva to meal prep!! So, I was able to track that reply down… the rest of my evidence is from recent blog replies. I do know that even if I came close to the amount of replies we should have accomplished, that I absolutely fell short on weekly comments. Had I kept up I would have seen what blog posts formatting should look like and wouldn’t have been so worried to make these posts.

To continue with my constant talk about my age… I am more of a people person face-to-face. At my job, I am the assistant director and the Executive Director always comments how great of a team we make because I can connect so easily to people and she’s more the administrative type who is happy to focus on the computer/behind the scenes type work. It is possibly because I grew up communicating with people face to face and I feel like communicating via replies doesn’t feel genuine so it is not something I am drawn to.

I feel that my replies (the ones I could find) show this. I like to connect with people by sharing something about myself, whether it be my reaction to their post or if I have some knowledge on the subject, then I compliment their learning and finish by suggestions if I have them. As a leader I find this type of communication works best in person and think that it translated well in the online community!

If I could go back in time I would make sure that I set an alarm to focus on this portion of the class… and then document it somewhere.

  1. Hey Amanda,
I also wish I had commented on more blogs each week. I feel like I had so much work to do every week that the community involvement part was just lost for me some weeks. I am trying to make up for those comments now and I am also having a hard time tracking down my comments from the beginning of the semester!
