Being a professional typically refers to an individual who is paid in their respectful profession that meets a certain criteria that is deemed competent. But I believe being a professional is so much more than that. As a professional teacher, you are in a position that requires you to be reliable, understanding, kind, and being able to adapt to different situations. I believe as a teacher, you do have an expectation to behave in a specific way in the school and outside of the school. And while I do not agree that teachers should be expected to work unpaid hours, they should still uphold a professional image outside of work hours. As a teacher, we are expected to be a role model for the children we will be teaching.
I am excited to continue my journey to become a teacher. I want to be a voice for the students that the school system fails. I was one of those students and I hope that every student I will teach will not feel the same as I did in my classes. Teaching is as diverse as the students that are in the school system and no one child learns the same.
