I Believe …

  • In a diverse classroom.
  • Allowing students to express their individual personalities, freely.
  • Setting desks up in unique ways, not in rows.
  • Using tables instead of desks if possible.
  • Having happiness and learning combined together.
  • Students being able to choose their partners or group members, they have a say.
  • The classroom being accessible for anyone.
  • Using surrounding resources.
  • Teachers not holding all of the power in a classroom.
  • Having lesson plans to help provide structure to the learning but still able to deviate away from them in special circumstances.
  • Hands on learning with the students.
  • Treaty Education within all grades.
  • Education for everyone despite their abilities.
  • Reconciliation is a key step as a teacher in order to have a safe environment.
  • Students being able to voice their opinions when making decisions that will affect the entire class.
  • Taking breaks in the classroom during learning to practice mindfulness if the students are starting to get energetic.
  • The needs of a student always coming first before learning.
  • Everyone feeling welcome in the classroom by the teacher and their peers.
  • Knowing and honouring your beliefs, while staying open to other people’s beliefs.
  • Students and teachers being constantly surrounded by positive influences.
  • Taking breaks in class to ensure everyone understands the concepts and that they all are personally doing okay.
  • Always explaining why a certain action and/or assignment is being done.
  • Understanding the culture of the school before you arrive.
  • Assimilation in a classroom not being okay. Each student should have the opportunity to be themselves.
