Who am I?

Hello, my name is Ashley Peterman! I am currently in my third year at the University of Regina. I am enrolled in the Faculty of Education Pre-K to 5 Program. Ever since I was young, I have loved helping and teaching others. Over the years, I discovered my passion for teaching young children and realized this is a job I could see myself doing for a long period of time. I am hoping that one day, I will be teaching a grade one class.

My story began the moment I stepped onto the artificial ice at a local skating rink in Regina, Saskatchewan. I competed and trained at intense levels in figure skating for many years. While training, my coach would often ask me to teach her younger students specific skating skills. I absolutely loved having the teacher role. Eventually, my time competing in figure skating came to a halt when serious injuries got in the way, which is when I decided to coach. Coaching allowed for me to fully hold the teaching role and I love it.

Along with coaching, I also have had the opportunity to work at a preschool summer camp. Working with young children at this summer camp gave me a look into the reality of what it will be like to be a teacher. Additionally, this past year I have been given the opportunity to work at the preschool on my afternoons off.

I have also begun working at an after-school program through the YMCA at a community school. Since I plan to teach in a community school, this has been a great experience for me so far!
