My Daily Interactions with Technology

We currently reside in the Age of Information. Ever since I was born in the 2000s, technology has affected me. Whether it was during birth or 10 years afterwards, technology was there everywhere around me. I use it for school with apps and websites like urcourses, Google doc (slides, sheets etc.) and Microsoft Office, or browse Instagram, TikTok, Youtube, Netflix, or games through different apps. Technology can also be used to keep ourselves organized, with apps like Calendar, my work schedule apps, or as simple as using Notepad on my Macbook to keep a list of what’s upcoming. I like that I can make reminders using the Calander app and I tend to have Siri make edits and add stuff while I do something else.

Of course tech is not just used for productivity and entertainment has its ways of grabbing hold of us. Some notable apps are TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, and it’s weird to say but the news app sometimes snatches me too. I currently don’t have any great ways to fight these off but there are apps that let me block these though I can manage fine so far, but if it gets out of hand, I guess technology has my back.

Balance is required when using technology, no human can sit and stare at a screen 24/7, you have to make it 23/7, joking! I try to get out any chance I get, away from screens but I also tend to turn towards screens when I feel exhausted. As long as it isn’t affecting my health poorly and I don’t turn going out down versus using a screen aside for homework I believe I am in a good balance because things like work, school, cooking and sleeping/napping already help me manage my screentime down.

This TED talk by Ruha Benjamin is great with how I precieve technology.
