Treaty 4 Gathering

 My Treaty 4 Gathering Contribution

What does it mean to me to live in a treaty?

Treaties are legal agreements made between Indigenous peoples and the Crown

We all are a part of the treaty in the specific place with live in (the territory). We all have responsibilities and it is meant to be beneficial for all. It is never ending and constantly binding.

How does Treaty 4 matter to me?

  • We cannot ignore what has been done in the past. The truth must be told.

  • Work towards rebuilding relationships between Indigenous and non-indigenous people.

  • Always be open to learning more about the Treaty and what the roles I have in it mean.

What does “all our relations” mean to me?

  • Everything is all interconnected in the world we live in. Everything’s meant to live in harmony and peace, the people and the land.

  • The importance of family and community. We are all family created by the Creator.

How could Treaty 4 be important for you as a teacher?

I think it is our role as educators to share the knowledge and truth to our students. We are the leaders of our younger generation. We need to talk about treaty 4 because these treaties were put in place to provide a framework between indigenous and non-indigenous people to share the land that we all live on in harmony.

These treaties are meant to create relationships between each other and they are important to share to keep on moving towards the goal of reconciliation.

  • Bring indigenous knowledge and elders into the classroom to share stories, traditions, and their own knowledge.

  • Always be willing to learn more about Treaty 4 – going to Fort Qu’appelle for the Treaty 4 Gathering.

  • Use Treaty Education Curriculum as a guide and framework for teaching.
