ABCD and Well You Know The Rest!

As we continue our ASL learning project I figured it was time to begin setting specific goals on what I wanted to learn each week. This week I decided to learn the alphabet! My goal for this week was to be able to sign the alphabet all together as well as to learn a few names.

Continuing on the path of YouTube for the third and final week, this week’s channel is called “Learn To Sign.” I will specifically be referring to their video on how to learn the alphabet in this post. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DBQINq0SsAw&pp=ygUabGVhcm4gaG93IHRvIHNpZ24gYWxwaGFiZXQ%3D

This channel exceeded my expectations for clarity on how to learn exactly what you want to know. The videos are clear, and a great length for someone who is on the go! This channel is my favourite so far in terms of adult learning. The channel also has many videos on why it is important to learn ASL, and other videos regarding the ASL community. While this is a great resource for adults, I do not think it would be the best channel to start with for young children as there isn’t the songs and characters that we found with the past two channels.

When it came to my learning this week, I found that learning the names of my family members came to me rather quickly, while doing the entire alphabet takes a lot more practice! While the alphabet is still a work in progress I hope to share with you next week- I have gotten our family’s names down and want to share those with you this week!

The other part of our learning this week was to find a new app to showcase what we have learned. I chose to use Canva to make posters of our family’s names! Canva was so easy to use and made my project look so pretty. I really liked the templates feature and all the different fonts. I found the program super easy to use as a beginner and can’t wait to continue to use it for my learning project as I will learn more each week!
