I have found a lot of the topics I focus on within this learning project have a lot to do with what my daughter is doing at the time! This week I have decided to focus on ASL food signs as my daughter currently refers to every food as “apple” or “cheese”
As you can imagine it gets very difficult to determine what food she is wanting based solely off of if the food is more like apples or cheese so I decided to begin learning some ASL signs for different foods. I turned to TikTok for this project and found @stephambrosedietitian on TikTok! She has a playlist of ASL with 67 videos that was quite easy to scroll through and find food related videos! https://linktr.ee/adelightfulllife
This was the most difficult topic to learn so far as there is just so many signs to know! After watching quite a few of her videos I made a poster of the signs I felt as though I would use the most in my day to day life with our diet and practiced each of these signs to put photos onto the poster! I turned to Canva once again to make this poster!
I have a lot left to learn when it comes to ASL food, but this page was a great start for me! I look forward to learning more from Steph Ambrose in the future!
Hey Brianna,
So cool that you learned different signs for food this week. Excited to see what you learn next week!
Take care
I love that poster you made! Somehow, I have never thought much about, or realized, that we have so many individual words that we use for different foods. It makes sense then that there would be a bunch in ASL too!
Hi Brianna! I really like the post you made, it could definitely be a beneficial tool some day if you are ever teaching a non-verbal or deaf child that uses ASL! I also like that each week when you learn something new you are connecting it back to your everyday life with your daughter! I think that definitely helps make this learning process a lot more meaningful for you! Can’t wait to see what you do next week!
