This week I continued my journey on ASL apps, stumbling upon this time an app called Pocket Sign.
Pocket Sign is similar to Bloom ASL in the terms that it has pre- set out lessons making it difficult to pick and choose a set of signs you want to learn. The teaching itself was a lot easier to answer questions but I don’t feel like these really drove home the signs as much as Bloom ASL did. Out of the lessons I completed, I did not learn any new signs as compared to the other resources I have used through this learning project.
This app is definitely not a bad resource, but for the $60 a year price tag I feel as though the previous app I tried or any of the free resources I used before turning to apps are a much better choice for anyone wanting to learn ASL. Apps are definitely a convenient way to learn ASL, but with the attached cost it is much better to use platforms such as TikTok and YouTube to get a start on ASL.
Thanks for sharing about this app. I think that the cost of apps such as this is a big reason that people are going to free ones instead. Considering that it is a yearly subscription, it doesn’t seem like that much, but when combined with all the other subscriptions, they start to add up!!!
Hey Brianna! This sounds like a really cool and helpful app! This could definitely be a helpful tool for any teachers that have a student who uses ASL! Thanks for sharing 🙂
