Diversity and Inclusion

Week 4 in Preeceville school marked my last day with the grade 2 and 6 students. It has been such a privilege to get to know the staff and students within the school. This week made me wish I could continue to be a part of the classroom for the rest of the school year as it was such a positive experience!

Diversity in the school is seen throughout every classroom and learning space. There is a diverse population of students including different cultures, races, abilities, and learning capabilities. The school does a great job at providing an inclusive environment for these students while still providing the one on one learning some students need to succeed.

There are many classrooms throughout the school utilized for one on one learning for students with a personal learning plan as well as a simulation room filled with tools to help students with different learning abilities. These tools are also utilized in classrooms allowing for students with stimming tendencies to have an outlet while in class and be a part of the classroom activities.

The school councillor was present in the school my last day which was a great experience to be able to see how they work with such a large body of students. She was in and out of every classroom with the teachers keeping an eye out for which students would benefit from seeing the councillor. The councillor also did a presentation for the grade 2 class on bullying and harassment as this was an issue arising throughout the class. This presentation helps to teach the values of diversity and inclusion at a young age cultivating an inclusive environment in the entire classroom.

I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity I had entering this school the last month, and so excited for the future of what is to come with my career in education.
