Learning Project – Amigurumi

I never imagined that my graduate studies would lead me to learn crochet.

As someone who has always loved crafts of all kinds, I’ve explored a wide variety over the years. Years ago, I tried knitting, and my early attempts were far from perfect. The scarf I made for my then-boyfriend was so tightly knit that it could double as a neck brace, and the blanket I completed was crooked with various-sized holes. However, I like to think these “imperfections” add a handmade charm that reflects the love and effort behind them.

In recent years, I have been looking for a project that I could do to stay busy while watching TV with my family. Crochet quickly became my next area of interest. During various shopping trips, I collected a selection of crochet supplies, as shown in this photo. I had no idea about hook sizes, yarn thicknesses or how they worked together. I just bought a variety.

I have had these supplies in my special crochet bag for quite some time now, patiently waiting to be used.

This past Christmas, an old friend of mine gifted me not only a beginner’s kit to Amigurumi, but also inspiration. Shortly afterwards, I was also gifted the gift of time to work on learning crochet by an unexpected source, Dr. Katia Hildebrandt. Sometimes one needs to acknowledge when the universe is listening and providing.

These are the cute animals I hope to complete as part of my EC&I 831 Learning Project

I will blog my learning-to-crochet journey, and I hope these cute little critters turn out as great as they deserve.

I wonder how many know how to crochet?

Have you ever completed a crochet project?
