From Pillsbury Cookies to Filet Mignon The Journey Continues
Everyone needs a baseline to determine how well they are at something. If you have no knowledge of a subject or how to do something that is your baseline, you are starting at no experience. If you have more knowledge on a subject it can be more challenging to determine because sometimes it is hard to gauge just how good you are at something (at least for me). I determined my baseline for cooking to be something really simple such as reading a recipe on the back of a premade pillsbury cookie box, turning on the oven to the correct temperature, and setting the timer to what was suggested on the box. It was super simple and showed that okay because I can do that I would be able to do something more difficult. Here was the process of making Pillsbury cookies.
This is what the packaging looks like – I chose the purple ghost package.
Here is a picture of them out of the box:
I found out you can eat the dough without having to actually make the cookies which was a huge bonus! I thought it was the absolute best.
After eating a few before putting them in the oven (note how small they are) these are what I was left with…
Here is them after pulling them out of the oven, they have grown and are nice and golden:

Final Project:
Application for learning
Looking back at my previous post of what I want out of this project it is the desire to try and master my skills to make restaurant quality meals for my wife. Starting with Pillsbury cookies was a nice confidence boost for me knowing that I mastered the absolute baseline level of cooking and it could maybe be an encouragement to others who may not have tried cooking before. This highlights the simplicity of looking at a recipe on the back of a box and executing it, anyone can do this! I believe setting a baseline for me to follow a recipe exactly how it says to make it will be the key to making perfect filet mignon at the end of this project. What I learned from doing this was that following instructions from peoples previous knowledge and experience helps when cooking. I could imagine if I decided to not look at the back of the box, set the temperature incorrectly it would have provided me with much different results. Thankfully I didn’t mess up this great tasting Pillsbury cookie!

Oooo great idea Cale!
These are unreal, you may have inspired me to make a trip to the store here.
Thanks Jaylyn! Maybe influencer might be a future career for me if teaching doesn’t work out. Hope you enjoy your cookies!
Hi Cale!
I think that you are right that you have to start from a beginning point and I think it is a great choice to start with Pillsbury cookies, plus they are delicious! What are you planning to make next?
Thank you Caitlyn, you have to start out with something you know you can do well! I decided to make a childhood favourite for my next post. I didn’t find it as easy but it was fun to do nonetheless!
Hi Cale, I am a huge fan of these cookies. They are so easy and taste so good! I am guilty of eating the raw cookie dough though… oops! Someday you should put ice cream between two cookies and create an ice cream sandwich!
Right?! They are a favourite every halloween, it’s great that they can be eaten raw too! You inspired my next post in trying to create another childhood favourite. It’s not quite putting ice cream in the middle of two cookies but rather icing in-between two cookies like an Oreo. Thanks for your comment!
Mmmm, those Pilsbury cookies remind me of my childhood! Reach for the stars dude, you got this!
Thanks for your encouragement Christen!!
Hello Cale,
The ‘Pillsbury Cookies’ look great! I remember eating so many of those ‘Pillsbury Cookies’ as a kid. They were very delicious and very hard to stop eating. Good job!
