Splicing it Up!
This week I am catching up on the joint learning project/blog post from a few weeks back. I recently had my first born child 9 months ago so it has been a challenging for me to balance wanting to see his every moment and doing my school assignments. I know that I will catch up!
I am using a video editor app called Splice(hence the title being Splicing it Up) to edit my last weeks video I made for the cookies I was recreating from my childhood. Splice seems to be relatively easy to use and I don’t know where exactly or how I stumbled across it. I downloaded it in April of 2023 but I never got around to actually using it. I found that there was an AI tool that auto edited my video for me so I chose that option. I find it tedious to go over every single clip to edit them so it was a nice change for the sake of this project and how behind I feel that I am. Where I believe it lands on the SAMR model is that it can be a good substitute, augmentation, and modification tool but does not complete redefine video creation. I think if it were to have a feature where you just put in details of a video you want to create and it created it that would totally redefine video creation. I would use it in the classroom for maybe different hands on learning videos I might make so the students can review different concepts I talked about in class. Having a good, quick video editor should be in every teachers handbook. I think it would help too if I did an end of the year video documenting everything the class did from the start of the year to end of the year. I think this would be a good tool for that.
I had to upgrade to the pro version to upload it but I was able to screen record it so I could document my learning process.
The app was super easy to use to create a video of multiple videos together. Here is a step by step process:
Step one: Open the app
Step two: Tap the create a new project button on the bottom of the screen and add videos to the project you create.
Step three: Choose either manual editing or AI Compilation
Step four: Choose the project duration and music you want to add, there are LOTS of music choices to choose from!
Step five: It took a while for me to choose a background sound but after that step is complete you are good to press the create button!
Step six: Enjoy what was automatically created!
Here is the screen recording of the cookies I made in my last learning project post. I thought I didn’t execute good enough from me spilling sugar on the floor, not being able to crack an egg with one hand while filming, not getting the cookies to be perfectly round and ultimately the taste just wasn’t what I remembered them being- they were too sweet!
Splice was a great video editing tool that I found to quickly edit videos I make with little to no extra editing on my end. This tool will help me as a teacher. If there are other video editing tools you recommend, let me know in the comments, or if you want to give me tips on how to crack an egg with one had while filming I could greatly use it!
I have never heard of “splice” before, thanks for providing me with a new tool to try out. I have heard of splicing videos, but I didn’t realize there was an app for it. I agree with you that I struggle to keep up with this project with family demands.
I found it to be a solid app, the quick editing helped a lot with this project and trying to have some sort of media with the things I am doing. Keep trying your best Angela, you got this!
