Major Tik Tok Fail…

To document my learning project progress this week, I decided to use an app that I use quite frequently in my everyday life… Tik Tok. I decided to use Tik Tok because it is a platform that I am already familiar with and that is very popular for people my age. Even though I already use this app, I have never used it to make a Tik Tok as a way to document something, it’s always been used to make something goofy with my friends or whatever is trending. I enjoyed using Tik Tok because it is extremely user friendly and easy to navigate through. However, I had a major mess up because none of my video saved. The tricky thing about making a Tik Tok that is related to cooking and baking, is that you cannot go back and redo something if you don’t like it because once it’s in, it’s not the easiest to take out. I believe that this is 100% my fault because I was switching between the recipe I was using on phone and recording clips on Tik Tok, making it very easy for me to not save something. That being said, I am going to learn from my mistakes and try again next week, this time either writing the recipe down, or putting it on my laptop, so my phone can be used specifically for making the Tik Tok.

One thing I love about Tik Tok is that for your audio, you can choose to either add music, or you can do a voiceover. I believe that both would have been appropriate for what I was making and I can use the upcoming weeks to explore those features. Personally, when I am watching Tik Tok’s, I enjoy the voiceover feature more, because I feel more connected to the creator and I am more engaged with the content

Since Tik Tok is so popular these days, it would be very easy to integrate it into the classroom. Students could easily make a Tik Tok for many things, as I am sure most of them already know how to do so. Some examples being, creating a dance for gym or creating a “how-to” for English Class, and then uploading it to Google Classroom. I would consider this a redefinition task on the SAMR model because it would not be possible to create a Tik Tok without the use of technology. Additionally, if the students chose to post their educational videos for the public to see, they could meet learners from all around the world that are learning about the same thing, or interested in the same topic.

  1. Hey Camryn! I totally get messing up the clips! I used TikTok to document this week as well and got so paranoid from previous experience that every time I made a new clip I would watch my whole video over again. I think that other than those small things, TikTok is great to document with!

    Hello Camryn,
I totally see your perspective about loving TikTok but not using it. I also tried to make a TikTok and it was a flop for me, I tried to edit and it was actually hard, and I anticipated it to be easier to edit because so many people make it look easy and flawless.
