My learning project had to be put on pause this week because I had to get my wisdom teeth out… I wanted to still be able to try what I make, but as we all know, in these circumstances you are limited to what you are allowed to eat. This is not necessarily baking, but something I had always wanted to make is overnight oats, so I decided to prep some for my recovery! I was scrolling on Tik Tok one day and a recipe for cinnamon overnight oats that popped up and I just decided to give it a go.
Here is the Tik Tok that I found:
@nourishedbynic These cinnamon roll overnight oats are the BEST way to start the day 🤎 packed with protein & fiber, they not only taste amazing but their also a breakfast that will help manage your hunger levels to power you through your day! * ½ cup oats quick, rolled or minute all work * 1 tablespoon chia seeds * 2 tablespoon vanilla protein powder optional * 1 teaspoon cinnamon * ¼ teaspoon salt * ¾ cup milk of choice * 1 teaspoon maple syrup * 4 tablespoon plain Greek yogurt * 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For the topping: * Additional cinnamon * 1 tablespoon plain Greek yogurt * 1 teaspoon icing sugar * Splash of milk of choice #mealprep #overnightoats #dietitian #healthybreakfast #healthylifestyle #breakfastideas #breakfastprep #glutenfree
I loved that this creator actually included the measurements and full recipe in the caption. I find that a lot of baking or cooking videos that I see on Tik Tok, they never put the recipe in the original vide0!
Here is my process of making it:
I started off by mixing together in two separate jars:
- 1/2 cup oats
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon syrup
- 4 tablespoons plain greek yogurt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Then most of the work was done! I popped them in the fridge overnight until the next morning. Before I tried it the next morning, I mixed together:
- A dash of cinnamon
- 1 table spoon plain green yogurt
- 1 teaspoon icing sugar
- A splash of milk
I then mixed this up and drizzled it on top.
Unfortunately… I don’t think I am a fan of the texture. The taste was good! I just could not get past the texture of it. On the plus side, the Tik Tok was super easy to follow, as she showed each step and included the full recipe. This content creator also has made many more recipes on her Tik Tok page that I would be interested in trying! I see why people find overnight oats extremely convenient, as they are super easy to make. Unfortunately, they are just not for me, but I still recommend this recipe for someone who does like oats! I will definitely be using Tik Tok again for baking and cooking because it is a very visual platform and a lot of creators have visual step by steps of what they do.
