Wow! I cannot believe we have reached the end. This semester has gone by incredibly fast, it is crazy to me that it is over! When I initially started this class, I was really looking forward to learning more about something that I previously had an interest in doing. To sum up my learning project in one sentence, I learned to take something that had previously stressed me out and I have now learned to give it patience and it is now something that I actually enjoy doing.
My main source of learning came from various online blogs. It made me realize how personalized blogging is, you can truly do it in whatever way you please. As I had mentioned previously in my other blog posts, I discovered through this learning project that I am a visual learner and I learn best if I have visuals do go along with things, in order to ensure that I am on the right track. In a classroom context, this has made me realize how important it is to meet every students needs. I would not have succeeded as much as I did if I did not have visuals and the same goes for students in a classroom context.
I realized that one of the biggest challenges that I continued to run into each week was not having an electrical mixer and having to mix everything by hand! This taught me how to push through in some not so ideal circumstances and I have now added a stand mixer to my next years Christmas list. With that being said, I still tried my hardest each week and did not let the stress get to me, even though it was quite annoying at times.
After everything that I had tried, I believe my favourite was the apple cinnamon bread. It was so easy to make, so delicious and the perfect treat to take on the go. I realized throughout this project that baking doesn’t always have to be sweet treats that you only have on a rare occasion, but it can also be super helpful in meal prepping. Things like muffins and breads are super easy to pack as a snack if you are running around during the week.
Here is a summary of where I was at before:
- I never baked
- I thought it was simply too much work
- I had never baked any sort of bread or bars
- I never worked with ingredients that were considered “out of the norm” such as cream cheese, apples, marshmallows, Nutella, etc
Here is a summary of where I am at now:
- I have developed a lot more patience for baking (and cooking)
- I have come to realize that once I become patient with it, it is actually something that I enjoy doing and is relaxing for me!
- I learned that I do not have to always follow things exactly to a T, I can add my own way of doing things if I am comfortable enough
- I have tried out so many unique recipes that I would have never considered doing before
- I am familiar with the requirements you need in order to make a basic cookie or muffin dough
Overall, this was such a fun and enjoyable experience for me and I feel as though I learned so much. I got to share so much of my creations with my friends and family along the way. My baking will definitely not be stopping here. Now that I have found some new easy and favourite recipes, I plan on for sure using them again and still continuing to try new ones!
