For the ECS 101-397 Space, Place, and Boundaries unit, we were asked to provide four photos with different meanings behind them. Below, I’ve included my four photos and an explanation for each of them.
Follow a Path:
I decided to go to a path I used to travel frequently. This path is a walking trail that attached to the alley behind my house. From this path, I would follow it to get to my elementary school, and when I got to high school I could follow it there too. I have fond memories on this path, including walking my dog.
Find a Sit Spot:
This sit spot is located along the path I chose. The is ‘Flat-Top Rock,’ and was very prominent in my personal and school life. My elementary school would always walk from the school to this rock for the Terry Fox Runs and on nice days where we went on walks for gym class. I went back to this rock when I graduated high school to get pictures as well.
Do Some Emotional Mapping:
I went on google maps and typed in my grandparent’s old address. This is what their house looked like back around 2013. This is a very important place for me. Weekends spent sleeping in the guest room and playing with my cousins who lived down the street. In the photo you can see two dogs; Percy (black coat near the bottom center), and Dingo (gold coat to the left of the car).
View From a Different Perspective:
I included two photos for this one to show the full extend of the different perspective. I went to New York in 2023 with my mom. She loves doing touristy things so we went on a parks tour. In this park, there was the beautiful structure you can see in the picture to the right. However, if you looked on the sidewalk underneath the structure, you could see the message written in chalk (which I’ve cut off due to vulgarity), about how there was an unfortunate situation stemming from a protest gone wrong.
