Orange Shirt Day

On September 28-29, 2022 I had the privilege to educate my students on the importance of Orange Shirt Day. We began by reading the story Kookums Red Shoes by Peter Eyvindson, during the reading we discussed how schools back then are vastly different from the schools today. Upon reading the book we looked at the All about Orange Shirt Day video posted below. As a class, we discussed various reasons why we all people matter, and had their responses posted on the whiteboard. Students proceeded to colour in an orange shirt and write why they matter at the bottom of the page. These orange shirts were posted in the hallway for all students and staff to see. We also posted Phyllis Webstab on our world changers wall.

On September 29, 2022, the Crescents school held a pancake breakfast in honour of Orange Shirt Day, which allowed all students and their families to join us for pancakes this morning. During the breakfast, I encouraged families to join me at the back table to take part in colouring Orange Shirt Day pictures together. It was a great way to get the community involved in Orange Shirt Day and get to know the community.
