Story of Becoming a Teacher

I have always had a passion for teaching, and ever since I was little, I had a desire to be a teacher when I grew up. At fifteen, I started volunteering in my mom’s classroom during my exam breaks. This was my first experience being in the classroom, and I fell in love with the idea of encouraging students to grow and develop a love for learning. During the summers, I began coaching soccer for kids under 9, and it was so rewarding having the children come up and tell me how much of an impact I made on them. This deep passion for teaching students was why I started my university career in the French education program.

Due to some conflicts, I could not pursue education and transferred to psychology. My first psychology class opened a deep love for psychology and all it entails. I graduated with a degree in psychology in June 2020. After graduating, I began looking for psychology jobs, wanting to be a case manager. Covid, unfortunately, made this reasonably difficult; while looking for a job, I continued working as an Educational Assistant substitute. I got a full-time position as an Educational Assistant at Arcola Community School. This experience reignited my passion for teaching, so I decided to go into the after-degree program at the University. It has been such a great experience thus far, and I’m so excited to continue this journey. I’m ready to utilize both my degrees to benefit the students. After teaching for a few years, my goal is to get my master’s in educational psychology.
