Eyeshadow Nails: A Review of YouTube and TikTok Tutorials

When it comes to DIY nails, I’m always on the lookout for new techniques to try. Recently, I came across the idea of using eyeshadow as a nail pigment, which seemed like an interesting and creative way to experiment with colors and effects. I watched two videos showcasing this technique—one from YouTube and another from TikTok. Here’s my take on both!

YouTube Tutorial: Eyeshadow Nails

This YouTube tutorial is a 10 minute deep dive into the eyeshadow nails technique. The creator does an excellent job of explaining the process in detail – from prepping the nails to applying the eyeshadow and sealing it in with a top coat. The tutorial is informative, and if you’re new to DIY gel nails or want a thorough guide, I think that this video is a great resource!!

However, as someone who has been doing my own nails for a while now, I personally found it a bit too long for me. I much prefer tutorials that are short and straight to the point. While the detailed explanation can be helpful for beginners, I felt like the key points could have been condensed into a shorter format without losing any quality of the tutorial.

TikTok Tutorial: Eyeshadow Tie-Dye Nails

In contrast, this TikTok video showcases a tie-dye effect using eyeshadow and was much shorter and to the point. Since TikTok videos tend to be under a few minutes, the creator quickly demonstrates the technique in a way that felt easy to follow.

I found this format to be much more engaging. The tie-dye effect added an extra level of creativity to the basic eyeshadow nails technique from the YouTube video and it made me excited to try it out for myself. Snice I already have some experience with DIY nails, I felt like the TikTok tutorial gave me all the information I needed without any unnecessary times wasted.

Comparing the Two Tutorials

Both videos have their strengths, and which one you prefer depends on your experience level and learning style. If you’re new to DIY nails and want a detailed step-by-step guide, the YouTube video is a solid choice. But if you’re looking for a quick tutorial, the TikTok version is the way to go.
