Wrapping up my Major Project!

I seriously loved this project! Not only can I officially do my own gel nails now, but I’m saving so much money and getting to explore a more creative side of myself.

One of the biggest things I learned is how I actually like to learn. I prefer short, to-the-point videos with good visuals. There are so many free tutorials and resources out there, and while it felt a bit overwhelming at first, the best thing to do was to just dive in and start looking around. Trying something totally new gave me a big confidence boost – not just in doing my nails, but in learning other things too!

Learning in this way reminded me, as a teacher, that real learning doesn’t just happen in a classroom. It happens when you’re curious, motivated, and have the freedom to figure things out on your own. Doing this major project helped me think more about how I can support my students in doing something similar. The Saskatchewan Curriculum has space for student-directed studies, and I’d love to build that around helping students explore their own interests using online tools and resources.

So while this started with a gel polish kit, it turned into something a lot bigger! How are you planning to use what you’ve learned in the future for yourself? For your students?
