Volunteer Work

Volunteer Work

Throughout high school I participated in a lot of volunteer work which is where I would say my love for teaching started. This carried into University where I spent my entire year at UofS volunteering. These are the following programs I have volunteered for:

Student Manager for UofS Huskies Men’s Basketball Team – From September to April, I worked as the team manager which granted me the opportunity to become the first student manager of the Saskatchewan Rattlers in the CEBL. I attended every practice, and home game, and prepped the teams equipment and jerseys for all away games. Usually in a one week span I would be volunteering for 15 hours for the team simply because I love the team, coaches and they all treated me like a member of the team.

High School Tutor – When I was in Grade 12 I helped jumpstart my high school’s tutor program so no students would have to worry if someone will help them with school. I tutored three different students for the entire second semester, helping one student increase their math mark by about 35%.

Moose Jaw Hospital – When I was interested in going into sports therapy or medicine, I decided to volunteer at the Moose Jaw hospital to get a better feel for how hospitals function and trying to get used to the environment. My duties included cleaning wheelchairs, delivering water to patients, and ensuring that all patients have what they need.

Minor Football Coach – Being a team captain for the football team, I felt I had a duty to be a leader and pass on my knowledge to some kids who are in the same position I was not too long ago. I largely helped out all the lineman but also tried to help the entire defence with some tackling.

Flag Football Coach – Just like for minor league football, I felt that when my fellow captain and current UofR Rams football player, CJ Vincent, came to me with this opportunity, I had to accept and to make an impact. Me and CJ by ourselves were able to coach a team to a winning record while in high school.
