Educational Philosophy

I Believe…

-Everyone should be treated equally

-There is no such thing as a “stupid” question

-Everyone learns differently

-Everyone learns at their own pace

-Teachers should make their students feel welcome and accepted

-Reducing play and outside time is not benefiting the child

-Kids learn through play

-Teaching is more than just a job

-Teaching is one of the hardest jobs around

-Kids should still be able to fail

-Regina has an awful education system

-Inclusive education should be a priority

My Teaching Philosophy

I am a supporter of multiculturalism and diversity in the classroom and I would be committed to learning many different types of cultural practices for greater awareness of bias so I can challenge stereotypes in all situations. I will encourage all students to express their cultural diversity and I will ensure that all students in my classroom are fully aware of racism and its consequences. I expect that all students will succeed, and I will find the strengths of each student, and build success through nurturing those strengths. I also recognize that there are many forms of success, and that they include, but are not limited to, academic success. I will be respectful of protocols about specific cultures and recognize the situations in which it is appropriate or inappropriate for the sharing of cultural representation. I will acknowledge the importance of languages to both individual development and maintaining cultures.

I recognize that communities and families have the key role in defining what constitues success for their children, and that success includes recognition of their identity and pride in their culture. I will also acknowledge and respect different worldviews and value multiple ways of knowing. I realize as a future educator, I have the power to shape a child’s mind only with the help of the family. The family is the first line of education and the family plays the role of setting the basic values and inserting motivation to academic success. I believe that the student, the learner, the teacher and the family should be a cohesive unit. After all, each one depends on the other ones success. I will create a welcoming atmosphere in the classroom and school for all parents, children and familes and I encourage an open line of communication with children as well as their parents and families, which allows everyone to be a part of the students success.

I strongly support a safe environment and the creation of free expression to be offered equally to every child. I feel that students are always motivated to learn. Students may have different learning styles or different ways of interpreting information and it will be my job to keep abreast the constant changes needed within the classroom walls to help encourage the young developing minds. I believe that education should be made available equally to all students as a separate individual knowing that each one has their strengths and weaknesses. I believe a teacher should be able not only to teach educational material but life lessons as well, like sharing, the importance of teamwork and personal responsibilities. I will always encourage students to acquire conceptual skills and help students to become leaders.

I think that “open-mindedness” being allowed to openly in my classroom can help to support and show the morality of a society. I do not believe that children should ever be restricted in thought to be creative and should be promoted to speak freely within positive support. I think teachers are the educators but can always be in place to turn back the clock of time as the student, if they allow their minds to be broadened by their young students. While I do not think there is a correct formula to know how to best teach a student, I believe that children are our key to success and by working together we can help students achieve their full potential.
