A Bump in the Road!
So basically, I needed to find a completely new resource for my first skirt… One reason being that making a skirt for a toddler is very different then making a skirt for an adult. In the beginning, I thought I could just simply use the smaller measurements and it would turn out all the same, but with the math involved, it just didn’t seem quite right. Also, the blog that I had originally linked and wanted to follow, appeared that it would be the best and easiest route for me to take, however I found that the directions although paired with great photos, weren’t very clear for a beginner. I did not know what the term double fold meant.
This meant researching for alternative sources. I decided that a YouTube video would probably be the easiest as I am a beginner who needs visual direction. I first searched “ribbon skirts tutorial beginner” and I came across a few good options. This was the first video I decided to watch.
While this video is great and an awesome resource for anybody who may be starting out like me, it also is making skirts for adults. So I decided to look into videos specifically making ribbon skirts for young children! I also learnt in this video the importance of washing your fabric in warm water before using it. There could be shrinking, and you want to make sure you get that out of the way before you sew your ribbon skirt together, so yet another speed bump.
Anyways, in my searching I came across ribbon skirts for babies, but they were literally tiny and the math for those seemed even more complex than the ones for adults. So I ultimately decided to just trust the process of the above video. In the meantime, my fabric is all currently in the wash.
By the end of the week, I plan to have one fully completed ribbon skirt for my 3 year old. Stay tuned to see what I do next!
