Teaching Manifesto

1. I will work to build a strong community and a safe place that values culture and identity. I see value in teaching and supporting traditions, identities, and cultures. I believe that working to create a space where students see themselves represented and valued will have a positive impact on all students. Creating a space where students can see, hear, and learn about differences will help students develop a positive attitude, empathy, understanding, and respect towards others.

2. I will work on getting to know my students, so I can provide them with rich learning experiences that reach them. By learning who my students are, I can change my teaching approach to match the student’s interests and learning styles.

3. I will strive to be open-minded! By being open-minded, I will become more aware and understanding of my student’s different backgrounds.

4. As a teacher I believe there isn’t one way of teaching or learning. In saying that I will work hard to provide students with a variety of learning opportunities. Incorporating multiple teaching approaches and use of a variety of resources. Some different styles of teaching could include hands-on, modelling, field trips, guest speakers, nature walks, use of multimedia, etc. I will work to support all the different learning styles by being adaptable and willing to change my teaching style/approach. I will work to value and respect the different teaching styles of my colleagues.

5. I believe that the “hard to teach or trouble” students aren’t bad, that they are most likely carrying baggage and stress that is not necessarily their own. As a teacher, I will work to support these students with unconditional love and support.
