Insight of why I chose Crocheting!

Insight of why I chose Crocheting!

Hello! I’m very new to blogging, I gotten use to writing essays and I didn’t know how to start my blog. I guess it’s something like Facebook and personally, I don’t even post on that one either and barely comment. I just read most of the time and watch videos on it. Anyways, I want to learn to crochet. To my surprise, knitting and crocheting weren’t even the same thing! Here’s a link to know the differences between knitting and crocheting.

I was never really interested in it before, but I’ve seen a child do it and I was impressed so I was like if a child can do it then maybe I can too. Not that I think I’d be better than her. I also saw cute little stuff things and thought to myself; how cool would it be if I made Nightmare Before Christmas stuff?! xD. I was also inspired by a TikTok video where a teacher assigned students to color their own yarn toques, and She got her mom to design their toques, and when she shared them with her students, they were amazed their creativity came to life! I’d love if I can do that for my students too, to provide a warm toque for the winter to keep their ears warm. Canada’s winters are so cold!

I also love yarn toques myself but it’s always difficult for me to find the right one. Not that I have a huge head or anything! Haha. I’m just picky. Most of the time, they include an extra layer, and that part feels a bit strange on my head. I love this one toque and it made me feel cute, I bought it online and never saw the exact same one again… only for kids. Here’s a photo and this was back in 2020.

So that’s how my interests bought me to that. I’ll be checking out videos, websites and buying material next!

  1. Hello Elizabeth!
I feel you! I have been struggling with starting these posts and the titles! I’m hoping it gets easier as this semester goes on!
I saw the Tiktok you talked about. It is so cute and I can definitely see why you would want to do that with your students.
In the past, I have tried to learn crochet for similar reasons of wanting to create cute things and clothing. Here are a few things I learned and found during that time. There are great beginner crochet kits on Amazon that include all the materials you need to get started. I was also told to get thick yarn when first starting, as it is easier to see and make the stitches. Lastly, I used the source https://www.youtube.com/@bellacococrochet, which I enjoyed as she has a playlist for beginners that provides step-by-step lessons that get progressively more difficult.
Good luck with your crochet journey! I am excited to see how it goes!

  2. Hi Elizabeth,
Last winter, I taught myself how to loom knit (a kind of shortcut to knitting). I have created scarves and actually made my first blanket for my 5-month-old niece. Knitting and crocheting are very mindless hobbies I can do while I watch television. Sometimes, we all need something creative that doesn’t require a great deal of brainpower (particularly at the end of a long day haha). I love how you are ambitious about wanting to make toques for your students (that would be a beautiful gift to give your future students). I am looking forward to seeing what you create! Enjoy your learning journey.
