Cyber safety what?

Cyber safety what?

My school didn’t do anything towards cyber safety, it mainly focused towards mental health and suicide. I remember being there was youth conferences focusing towards kindness to self and others, and focusing on mental health and suicide awareness. There was a high rate of suicide/suicide attempts going on in Indigenous communities, unfortunately it still is. This was a time of computers were happening and online bullying came along with it, but there was nothing done about online bullying because tech was new.

The Youth Conferences were actually something to look forward to, especially when it came to First Nation children because there was hardly anything to do in reserves. It was usually a week long; this was to encourage participation and teamwork in fun and uplifting activities. Other reserves were also joined in together and were encouraged to meet new people from other reserves. I remember students were excited when it the time of Youth conferences were close by, but eventually it stopped.

Other than that, the only scare tactic I experienced about cyber safety was to always let trusted adults where I was and if I didn’t, I was small enough and weak to fight off strangers if I was ever taken which gave me a life-long anxiety that I still have today. Even though I’m not even small anymore, I can’t help but not enjoy going out far to travel alone, talking to strangers, or even post anything on the internet because of the dark web and stuff like that. If it makes you think of it, I think I got a few mental health problems but refuse to talk to a mental health therapist about it.
