Hi there!
My name is Ellie Hales and I attend the University of Regina. I am studying secondary education with a major in social studies and a minor in health. I have always been eager to help and teach others. Even when I was in daycare I was helping my babysitter take care of the babies like putting them down for nap time or holding them when they were crying. As I grew older I began to realize how much I liked to help other people, especially in the classroom. I was usually one of the first students done assignments and often asked to help other students complete assignments. Even in high school I took a clothing and textile class that I excelled at, and I often helped other students with their projects. While I take my education degree I also work part time at a western clothing and tack store. This is where I learned that I like to help other people find what works for them; a barrel saddle is perfect for a barrel racer but it will not work for someone wanting to rope or for someone that wants an all around ranch saddle.

I was born and raised in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. My family comes from an agricultural background which I am heavily involved in. It is still one of my goals to live and operate my own ranch. So you could say I like to stay busy.

I have two older brothers, Jackson and William. My oldest brother, William, has autism and was not diagnosed until he was in highschool. When people that were around our family and interacted with him often, would say they knew something “was wrong.” In reality, there is nothing wrong with him, he has an exceptionality. Times have now changed but I still hear this type of language being shared. I want all students to feel accepted for who they are and not feel like they are separated form the class. Their exceptionalities should be turned into a strength in the classroom, not be treated as a burden.
I enjoy the simple things in life. I like to spend time with my family and friends, sew, and craft. I often go on small road trips with my friends and family, especially in the summer. I also love reading and playing card games even though I only know how to play Rummy and Go Fish.

Since high school I have picked up a few hobbies like sewing, crocheting, and baking. This summer I also plan to take up a few more hobbies like leather work, specifically tooling, and silver smithing. I have made so many things in my spare time like steering wheel covers, quilts, and my own clothes. I am most proud of the quilts I have made. Over the past year, I taught myself to paper piece and since then I made two quilts with this technique, one quilt I made was steer heads and another I made was sunflowers. Both were very difficult and time consuming, but I like a challenge, so I am proud of myself for completing them.
