Common Sense by Kumashiro’s definition means the perceived ‘way things are supposed to be’ or conventional norms. An undefined set of rules in place. This can be a common finding in schools, these undefined sets of rules and norms are rarely questioned many times. The importance of recognizing the existence of Kumashiro’s definition of common sense lies in the ability to rethink the existing norms and perhaps create newer, more progressive norms and understanding.

My understanding of curriculum and pedagogy in the sense of defining these two terms would be that curriculum is the government-curated standards and outcomes that students are meant to meet by the end of their school year, as well as setting standards for what learning and teaching will look like. Whereas pedagogy is the strategies and techniques used to put curriculum into action and keep students engaged and learning in an effective way. These two concepts work hand in hand to give students the best outcome in their educational journey.
