In order to ensure that multilingual students are included and their learning and engagement is maximized in the classroom, teachers themselves and students need to value and celebrate these diversities , perhaps having a cultural fair or exchange can help students understand each other’s differences and appreciate them. As well, inclusivity and adaptation should be used in the sense that students who are multilingual have the opportunity to be provided with text or assignment in their own or dominant language.
Collaboration and communication with students’ families can also be a great way to help a student maximize their learning. The family can contribute to helping the educator learn more about that student’s background and can promote learning for both parties— the student and teacher.
For students who struggle with the dominant language, different learning styles can be utilized to help them better understand the class material. For example, visual tools can be used such as images or videos.
