The video and podcast shed informative light on what citizenship means to people with different ideologies and who come from different backgrounds. Dr. Palmater describes the Indigenous experience of citizenship and discusses decolonization.

Citizenship to me is being active in a community and it is also a set of values in which a sum of people all share. Citizens contribute to building upon these values and shaping them for everyone in their society.

By learning about Indigenous perspectives on citizenship, Canadian settlers and Indigenous people can perhaps have more understanding of each other and move further towards reconciliation. Students will begin to understand their responsibility in creating a more diverse and inclusive society and perpetuate ideologies of social justice.

Treaty education can motivate community members to advocate for change and reform when it comes to the treatment of Indigenous people in Canadian society, as well as developing a sense of accountability for injustices committed.
