What I believe and how I hope to implement in the classroom
Pedagogy
I believe children are capable of anything and everything they put their mind to.
In my classroom I will as a teacher take the time to question my own teaching, beliefs, pedagogies and teaching strategies on the regular, because it means I am putting my best food forward for my students.
Assessment
I believe in the value and critical importance of using additional methods, adaptations and including a students learning style when assessing a students understanding. I believe performing assessment in a way that works better for the individual teaches us more about the student than a simple test score.
In my classroom I will use adaptive and inclusive methods when assessing but also when teaching students, because it better meets the needs of each individual student.
Social Justice
I believe in the power of relationships. I believe we must connect with our students, build relationships, support them through the tough times and always advocate for them.
In my classroom I will do my personal best to ensure students feel safe, loved, protected, cared for and feel like they always have a safe place in the classroom.
Lifelong Learning
I believe children are always learning and thinking of new and creative ideas.
In my classroom I will do everything in my power to support my students’ learning and their developing minds. In some cases that can look like using students’ interests to foster the content we learn about on the day to day.
