We are all a digital citizen. If you have ever looked anything up on the internet, sent a snap, checked Facebook, made a tweet or watched TikTok, you are a digital citizen. Approaching the topic of digital citizenship in the classroom is an important topic to discuss.
There are 9 themes of digital citizenship. Having kids understand the 9 themes is a very critical thing when using the internet. I think that I will introduce the themes 1 by 1 to the students. We will take a day for each theme so that the kids have a full understanding of what they mean. I have to do further research on the best way to teach about digital citizenship. By getting kids familiar with being a digital citizen means getting them comfortable with using technology and the internet.
By having a classroom blog or website that the kids are able to post on they are getting to explore being a digital citizen in a safe and controlled manner. This can be worked on as a class or individually. Using the blog or a website can be used to teach the nine elements of digital citizenship, which are all very important to understand!
