Assessment on Assessment

In ECS 401 we have five self-assessment quizzes. We do these quizzes at the start of the semester and again at the end of the semester. I think it will be really interesting to see how much I have improved in assessing and evaluating by the end of the semester.

Result From First Quiz:

On the first quiz “Where we going,” I surprised myself by getting 81%. I feel like I understand the lessons well, and I know what my students need to accomplish. I don’t want my students to feel stressed, so I would allow them to correct their mistakes. However, I need to work on creating and planning assignments with extra support. My main goal is for my students to succeed, and sometimes that means using different teaching strategies or tools.

On the second quiz, “How are we doing,” I scored 76%. I believe it is important to go over practice questions, show examples, and answer any questions students might have before they start the assignments. I like being able to help my students succeed instead of waiting for them to make mistakes. However, there are still things in this section I need to improve on.

On the third quiz, “Where to next,” I scored 71%. I think motivating and pushing students to where they need to be is so important to me. Also, I believe my actions, judgments, and decisions are always in the best interest of my students. However, in this section, I lack in setting goals for myself, which I need to improve.

On the fourth quiz, “Communicating with stakeholders,” I scored 38%, which was surprising. I thought I communicated well with my students but I was proven wrong.  I do think feedback is important for students because it helps them understand what they need to improve to be successful. However,  after taking this quiz, I realize I need to improve a lot in this area.

On the fifth quiz, “System-based literacy,” I scored 48%. I am aware that I don’t focus on world, country, and school-wide assessment results because I believe each student is unique. However, I should consider using some of this information in my grading and teaching because it would be beneficial for me.

Result From Last Quiz:

After doing an assessment on assessment quiz, where the scores for different categories are as follow:

  1. On the first quiz “Where are we going,” I received a 92% which was my highest score. In this category I would say I feel like most comfortable and have a good clear understanding of the goals and objectives of the assessment process. I would say I have a well-defined direction and purpose driving the assessment practices.

2.  “How are we doing” quiz I scored a 90%. Therefore, I believe I can keep a good eye on how assessments are going. I feel confident I can hit the targets I have set or meeting the standard i have decided on.

3.  “Where to Next” I scored a 91%. Getting a high score here mean I believe I am really good at thinking ahead and planning for the future assessments. I believe I am also thinking about what i need to do next to make my lesson or assessment even better.

4.  “Communicating with Stakeholders” I scored a 82%. Even though this score is not as high as the others, it shows I am still pretty good at sharing my assessment result with the right people. But, there is still some space to make things clearer, more open, and include everyone better when we communicate.

5.  System-Based Assessment Literacy” I scored a 73%. I got a lower scored here because there is some parts of how we do assessment that I don’t completely understand yet. I need more help, like extra training or resources, to get better at handling some tricky parts of assessments.

Overall, the assessment result show that I am doing well in most areas like understanding the goals, keeping track of progress, and planning ahead. However, there are some places where I could do better, especially in how I communicate and understand the whole assessment system. Therefore, I should focus on getting better at these things by getting more help and training. This will make my assessments even more useful and effective in the future.
